Junior School Leaders Award

Since achieving it’s first Sportsmark gold award in 2001 Caedmon has been given special permission to run the JSLA award with Year 9 pupils. This award should normally be taken by Year10/11 pupils over a two year period, with the final award being presented at 16.
The award is based on the leadership qualities needed to run simple activities for younger children and their own peers, it is divided into 7 units:

  • Planning & preparing & assisting simple sporting activity

  • Basic communication skills for leading a sporting activity

  • Principles & practice in delivering a basic Health & fitness session

  • Understanding fair play in sport

  • Understanding the role of the sports official

  • Understanding the scope of local sport and recreational activities

  • Demonstration of leadership skills in sport

The Junior sports leaders attend a weekly 1 ½ hour session for 30 weeks, after school every Wednesday. They also work with younger year groups during dinner hour activities and with the local Junior School children training and tournaments. This is an opportunity to put their developing skills to the test and benefits the community at the same time.

The success rate achieved by the school’s pupils at the age of 14 gives the school a sense of pride.
