Since achieving
it’s first Sportsmark gold award in 2001 Caedmon has been
given special permission to run the JSLA award with Year 9 pupils.
This award should normally be taken by Year10/11 pupils over a two
year period, with the final award being presented at 16.
The award is based on the leadership qualities needed to run simple
activities for younger children and their own peers, it is divided
into 7 units:
- Planning & preparing & assisting simple sporting activity
- Basic communication skills for leading a sporting activity
- Principles & practice in delivering a basic Health &
fitness session
- Understanding fair play in sport
- Understanding the role of the sports official
- Understanding the scope of local sport and recreational activities
- Demonstration of leadership skills in sport
The Junior sports leaders attend a weekly 1 ½ hour session
for 30 weeks, after school every Wednesday. They also work with younger
year groups during dinner hour activities and with the local Junior
School children training and tournaments. This is an opportunity to
put their developing skills to the test and benefits the community
at the same time.
The success rate achieved by the school’s pupils at the age
of 14 gives the school a sense of pride.
