The GCSE ICT, and now Food Technology courses continue to be
a popular part of the school. Every year a group of Year 9 pupils
study for their GCSE in ICT and Food Technology as an extra-curricula option. This is
a remarkable achievement, when you think these pupils are doing
work they would not normally do until they were in Year 11, two
years later.
Pupils have one lesson a week after school where they learn the
advanced ICT and Food Technology skills needed for completing their coursework, in addition
to their normal ICT and Food Technology lessons. To pass a GCSE, the pupils have to complete
a piece of coursework that allows them to demonstrate these advanced
skills, such as spreadsheets, databases and Desktop publishing in ICT.
This coursework represents 60% of the final mark. At the end of
the year, pupils sit a final exam, which represents 40% of the final
mark. Pupils at Cædmon usually sit the intermediate exam,
which allows them to achieve the higher levels.
We had 23 pupils study ICT this year and 13 study Food Technology. Many congratulations to Paige Hayton for achieving an A* in ICT and Elizabeth Marsey for achieving an A* in Food Technology.
We also had 13 pupils achieve grade A in either ICT or Food Technology.
The results are given below.
Well done to one and all.
