3.30pm SCHOOL CLOSES FOR SUMMER
Drama is taught in mixed ability groups to each student in the school. Students in years 7 and 8 have one lesson per week and year 9 have one lesson per fortnight with some opting to take Drama as an option on Wednesday afternoon every week.
The course aim to foster an enjoyment of the subject. Year 7 students joining the school have had a wide variety of different drama experiences. The scheme of work for year 7 concentrates on developing basic skills and introducing dramatic techniques. In years 8 and 9 students build on the knowledge and skills gained in year 7. They develop the ability to sustain their work and are encouraged to explore ideas in greater depth. Students also develop their ability to evaluate their own contribution and performance and that of their peers. The skills, knowledge and understanding gained prepares those students who opt to take Drama GCSE at Whitby Community College.
Students in year 9 who opt to take Drama on Wednesday afternoons are encouraged to take the Trinity College, London, Bronze or Silver Arts Award.
There is a flourishing extra-curricular Drama Club for students from all year groups. These pupils put on performances for Open Evening and, occasionally, in assemblies.
Pupils have the opportunity to take part in the school production and in the annual House Drama Festival.
